Valry Lewis, Sr. Obituary

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."
— 2 Timothy 4:7

Valry Lewis Sr., affectionately known as “Big Daddy” and “Big Nu-Nu,” was born on October 12, 1933, in Rosa, Louisiana, to the proud and loving parents Sedonia Lewis and Lee Lewis Sr. He was raised in a close-knit family where love, strength, and faith formed the foundation of his life.

From a young age, Valry was rooted in love, and he carried those values with him throughout his life. He believed deeply in family and lived life his own way, with strength, style, and a heart full of love. Valry attended school in Morrow, Louisiana, and attended Mount Olive Baptist Church as a youth.

Valry joined in marriage with Vera Ray, and together they built a loving home in Galveston, Tx. They raised five children, including two sons of their own, pouring into them with care, guidance, and a deep sense of family.

Valry was a man who truly enjoyed life and loved being around his family. He had a presence you felt the moment he walked in the room, and he was often surrounded by laughter, good stories, and good times. Always sharp and well put together, he took pride in how he looked. Whether he was out hunting, riding around in his truck, or just taking it easy, he knew how to enjoy life his way.

Valry had a true love for cars and always took pride in how he carried himself. He was a sharp dresser, known for his signature hats, flashy jewelry, and clean look, always stepping out with confidence and style. In his younger years, he enjoyed games of chance and friendly competition, “The Gambler”, adding to the many stories and memories that made his life so full and vibrant.

Above all, Valry was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. His love for his family was unmatched, and he poured into each generation with care, wisdom, and presence. His legacy is one of love, strength, and unwavering commitment to family.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt and sincere gratitude to his grandson, Valry Lewis Allen, Jamie Allen, and Elida Green for the love, care, and unwavering support they showed each and every day. Their dedication, compassion, and presence meant more than words could ever truly express.

On March 20, 2026, Valry Lewis Sr. was called home to be with the Lord. While his passing brings deep sorrow, we find comfort in knowing he lived a full and meaningful life, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to live on through all who knew and loved him.

Valry was preceded in death by his loving wife, Vera Ray Lewis; his sons, Valry Lewis Jr., and Kenneth Wayne Lewis; and his daughter, Ruth Etta Brown Nelson. He was also reunited with his parents, Sedonia and Lee Lewis Sr.; his sisters, Pearlie, Alma, and Shirley; and his brothers, Ernest, Clarence, Jimmy, Lee Lewis Jr., and Ray Lewis Sr.

He leaves behind, to cherish his memory, his sisters, Ruth Branch and Lula Romar; and his children: Shirley Brown Collins, John “Todie” Brown Jr., Valerie Everette, Ervis Hill, Areon Lewis, and Areona Lewis.

He leaves behind a beautiful legacy through his 18 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren, each of whom he loved deeply and cherished. He is also remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who will carry his memory in their hearts forever.

Valry Lewis Sr. leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, style, strength, and family devotion that will continue for generations to come.

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want… Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."
— Psalm 23:1,6
