Rita Bryant Obituary

Rita Joyce Bryant, 74, of Galveston, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on October 20, 2025, surrounded by love and peace.

Born on September 30, 1951, in Galveston, Texas, Rita was one of thirteen beautiful siblings, the last “warrior” standing among them — a testament to her strength, faith, and grace.

She attended Ball High School and later devoted 15 years of faithful service to the Galveston Independent School District (GISD) as a custodian, retiring in 2015.

Rita was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Milton (MT) Thomas Bryant and Victoria Payton Bryant, as well as her twelve siblings: Gertrude Frenchwood Johnson, Bernice Frenchwood, Jean Frenchwood Evans, Helen Bryant Pines, Beverly Bryant, and brothers Don Frenchwood, Roy Frenchwood, Tommy Frenchwood, Milton Thomas Bryant Jr., Daryl Bryant, Earl Bryant, and Kenneth Bryant.

She was also preceded in death by her late husband, James “BigFoot” Woodard, with whom she shared many cherished years.

Rita is survived by her loving children — son, Tracy Bryant (wife Tammi), and daughter, Tenecia Bryant — along with her beloved grandson, Tracy (Tee-Jai) Bryant Jr., and a host of great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Carl Galloway, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who loved her deeply.

Rita was outgoing, caring, and full of life, lighting up every room she entered with her laughter, presence, and radiant spirit. She was known for her kind heart, bubbly personality, and that signature touch of “snippiness” that made her unforgettable. She spoke truth with love and carried herself with a strength that inspired everyone around her. Rita always called and checked in on her family and friends, making sure everyone was cared for and loved.

She loved spending time with her “babies” — her family and friends — and anyone blessed to cross her path was truly in good company. A proud Dallas Cowboys fan, Rita enjoyed listening to Magic 102 FM and had a fondness for ivy plantsand mixed floral arrangements, which reflected her bright and nurturing nature.

Rita’s life was a reflection of faith, love, and resilience. From August 20th to October 20th, her final days were filled with grace — a journey through challenges and peace, with God’s hand guiding her every step. She never suffered; she was carried in divine love until her very last breath.

We thank God — in Jesus’ name — for the precious time we had with her, even in the midst of the storm.
Rita will be forever remembered, forever missed, and forever loved — until we meet again in glory.

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness,
which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day.”
— 2 Timothy 4:7–8 (KJV)
