“For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” II Corinthians 5:1
Odie Wortham, III passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, surrounded by his sisters. He was 65. Born on September 8, 1958, in Galveston, TX., he was the sixth child of ten and one of two boys born to the late, Odie Wortham, Jr. and Albennie Price Wortham. Odie received Christ at an early age, and he was baptized at Live Oak Missionary Baptist Church where he actively served with the youth choir and junior usher board ministries.
Odie attended public schools in Galveston and was a proud graduate of the Ball High School Class of 1978. Following high school, he moved to Oklahoma where he worked for a newspaper printing company for several years. Returning back to Texas, Odie was a licensed truck driver by trade for more than 20 years. He loved cooking and the arts culture, often listening to music and poetry when cultivating his creative gift of drawing – be it line art, sketching or spontaneous sightings.
Along with his parents, Odie is preceded in death by his sister, Joycelyn Wortham Taylor and brother, Will Adam Wortham. He leaves to cherish his memories, seven sisters: Patricia Johns, Vanessa Wortham, Brenda Matthews (Columbus), Etta Wortham, Wyzell Wortham Lewis, Albennie Wortham, Jr., Clemmie “Peaches” Matthews (Edward), a special cousin Vanessa Jefferson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
There is no need to mourn for sorrow, celebrate Odie’s life journey, for he was truly blessed and now he is at rest in his Heavenly home. As Christians we are confident in knowing that “to everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:” Ecclesiastes 3:1. The family of Odie Wortham would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the University of Texas Medical Branch staff for their diligent care and kindness shown to Odie from the paramedics to nurses and doctors on floors 8B and 10B, and Teresa Clark with A-Med Choice.
Visitation for Odie Wortham, III will be Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 10am, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11am officiated by Dr. Vernon L. Baines at Wynn Funeral Home Chapel - 602-32nd Street, Galveston, TX.
