Fred McDonald Mitchell, passed away on April 8, 2026, at the age of 79. He was born on September 29, 1946, in Galveston, Texas to the late George Mitchell Jr. and Elizabeth Armstead Mitchell. Fred was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, where he served honorably as a Sergeant (E-5). During his service, he was deployed to Vietnam and received several commendations, including the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, and the Vietnam Gallantry Cross. Following his military service, Fred continued his commitment to serving others in his community. He will be remembered for his service, strength, and dedication to both his country and his community.
