Armond W. Hurd Jr. “A. W. Hurd”, 72 years of age, went home to be with the Lord on February 28, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at Mainland Medical Center in Texas City, TX.
He was born January 4, 1954, in Galveston, TX and graduated from Ball High School in 1972, He also graduated from the College of the Mainland with an Associate’s Degree. Armond served as Airman 1st Class in The United States Airforce and served Vice President of the Galveston County Coalition of Black Democrats. After working for many years Armond retired from TDCJ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Armond and Mamie Hurd; sister, Darlene Hurd Madison; and neice Elicia Netherly.
He leaves cherished memories with his children Angela W. Hurd-Mims and Armond W. Hurd III all of Galveston, TX,; siblings Cynthia Hurd Netherly, Doris M. Hurd, and Carl R. Hurd of Galveston, TX; grandchildren Tristan J. Suayan and Lucas A. Thompson, a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Visitation will begin at 09:00am, followed by a celebration of life at 10:00am, Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Greater Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Galveston, with the Pastor Michael Dwyer officiating.
Resting place:VA Cemetery located on 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038; on March 16, 2026 at 11:30am.
